200g Plywood Build

200g Plywood Build

Postby Flake » Mon Sep 28, 2009 7:51 pm

It was hinted that this thread should also be moved over, so here it is, in all it's glory.

My name is Flake, and this is my fishtank.

After I started with saltwater, I quickly realized that in order to do everything I wanted to do I was going to need a MUCH larger tank than the one I had. It was initially planned to buy a 100g tank for christmas. In preparing for my new fishtank, I started reading MFK, where I first discovered the plywood tanks. The plan quickly switched over to building a tank. So here we are. The tank itself has been built. The stand is half built, and the fiberglassing in more than halfway over.

It looks like a tank!

Fiberglass is happening!

Pardon the terribly unbecoming pictures. After about 2 straight days of wood glue and screws we weren't awake or attractive :)

I'm curious how can you make a plywood tank without worry of leaking or rotting, etc.?

the tank is first getting a coating of fiberglass (if it works for boats...) followed by a coat of "pond armor". Pond armor is a 10mm thick coating used for ponds, pools etc. between the two I should have about an inch of seal all the way around and then 3/4 in thick glass. Should hold pretty well.

I wish I had a house where this was my sump, but since i live in a teeny tiny house, that's not it.

You people are update maniacs. One of these days i'll start posting my homework. Maybe then i'll have an excuse.

okay.

you have an animation of a waving flag due monday. You have to make a logo using my initials by monday and write a full outline for an informative speech on monday.

Oh and you have a 24 hour challenge friday.

that's all the info I got, that should be all you need.

Just to help you out, the animation already has keynotes and breakdowns. Timing is on 4s. I need inbetweens :)

on another note. I'm skipping the 24 hour challenge so I can clean house this weekend and hopefully get some build done. I'd like to finish fiberglassing and finish the stand.
